Living Curtain is a time-based site-specific installation in the botanical garden at Leighton Art Centre. Made from strips of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), Living Curtain explores this material’s potential liveliness and relationship to its environment. When placed within the context of the LAC’s botanical garden, Living Curtain complicates the contentious relationship between what we accept as being living with what we consider to be lifeless. Throughout the exhibition year as the Living Curtain shifts and settles, the plants will adjust to its contoured cuts, reaching their limbs through and recoiling from the slats as markers of life and decay.
